    Planet

    Saturn

The ringed gas giant, less dense than water, with hundreds of moons.

    • Main rings span about 280,000 km yet are mostly only ~10 m thick
    • Titan has lakes and seas of liquid methane and ethane
    • Enceladus vents plumes of water from a subsurface ocean

Moon counts as reported after the IAU Minor Planet Center announcements of March 2026. Counts change as new discoveries are confirmed.

    Atmosphere

Hydrogen and helium with ammonia-ice cloud decks; hexagonal jet stream at the north pole.

    Composition and structure

Gas giant with a rocky-icy core region and very low mean density (0.687 g/cm³).

    Discovery and exploration

Galileo saw its rings in 1610; Huygens identified them as a ring in 1655. Pioneer 11 and both Voyagers flew by. Cassini–Huygens orbited 2004–2017 and landed the Huygens probe on Titan.

    Major moons

    • Titan — A hazy moon with methane rain, rivers and seas.
    • Enceladus — A bright icy moon venting a subsurface ocean into space.
